    • Obituary: William C. "Bill" Selves, 85, of 604 Hamilton Ave., Quincy, died at 4:17 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 5, 2011) in Blessing Hospital.
      Born Dec. 19, 1925, in Durham, Mo., Bill was the son of Ralph Olin and Lucille Garkie Selves. He married Nadine Braungardt on July 22, 1943 in Palmyra, Mo. She died Feb. 9, 2005.
      Bill was a member of Central Baptist Church where he was active with many church activities. An avid hunter and fisherman, Bill also enjoyed woodworking, mushroom hunting, painting outdoors and being a handyman and traveling extensively throughout the United States with his wife. Bill dearly loved his family and treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
      A graduate of Durham High School, Bill was employed at Moorman Manufacturing for 39 years, retiring as a foreman in the Premium Department.
      Bill served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He saw action at the Battle of the Bulge, the Rhineland and Central Europe receiving three Bronze Battle Stars.
      Survivors include his son, Rev. Roger Selves and his wife Nata of Quincy, four grandchildren, William H. Selves of Quincy, Nicole Leerhoff and her husband, Byron, of Quincy, Kathy Walker and her husband, Timothy, of Marblehead and Kimberly Maple and her husband, Fred, of Liberty; six great-grandchildren, Alex Selves, Nathan Leerhoff and Kelsey Leerhoff, all of Quincy, Logan Maple and Madison Maple, both of Liberty and Thomas Walker of Marblehead; a brother, Thomas Selves and his wife, Norma Jean, of Durham, Mo.; a sister, Esther Stratton of Maywood, Mo.; many loving nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Breta Cook.
      Mr. Selves was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nadine; a daughter, Carolyn Sue Maas; and a sister, Lucille M. Sharpe.
      SERVICES: 1 p.m. Sunday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Ivan Grueter. Burial with military honors by the Lewistown American Legion Post 578 will be in the Durham Cemetery.
