On Sunday, April 3rd, death came to W.R. (Will) Kirk, following an illness extending over several months.

Mr. Kirk was born in the Chumah district on July 16, 1891, and received his education in the Chumah school, which was situated near the present church.

His marriage took place on December 25th, 1919, to Margaret A. Colbeck, of Scotia. The couple took up residence in the Chumah district and have farmed successfully. Mr. Kirk was very active in community enterprises and did not spare himself in the responsibilities that were laid upon him.

In 1936 he was elected to the Trustee board of the Consolidated School District of Crandall and for the past six years was Chairman.

He was a very active member of the Loyal Orange Lodge, and had served in all the important offices in Crandall Lodge, 1804, and at the time of death, was the Treasur of Miniota County, L.O.L. Also he was a member of the Board of Stewards of Chumah United church.

Tribute to his life and work was paid in the remarks of Rev. J.M. Wilson, who conducted the funeral service held the following Tuesday in Crandall United church. Members of the L.0.L. of Hamiota and Crandall attended and conducted their impressive service in Crandall cemetery. A male quartette sang "Breathe on me, breath of God."

As a mark of respect, the school was closed on the afternon of the funeral.
