Mrs. Sarah Selves died at her home on Pleasant Ridge, Wednesday morning, August 18, 1926. Her health has been failing her for the past six month, and Wednesday she slept peacefully away at 2 a.m.

Sarah Buss was born Nov. 1st, 1836, in Buffalo, N. Y., having six sisters and one brother. She was married to John Selves in Buffalo, in 1851. Seven children were born to them, two died in infancy.

Came Here, in 1866

Mr and Mrs. Selves came from Buffalo by boat through the Great Lakes to Milwaukee and then emigrated by team from Milwaukee to the farm on Pleasant Ridge in the fall of 1866. Mr. and Mrs. Selves bought this pieces of land upon arriving in Clark County, without any improvements on it. They began at once to build a log house and they moved into it before winter came. In the years following Mr. and Mrs. Selves cleared up the eighty acres that is known as the Selves farm east of the Pleasant Ridge church, until to day its one of the best farms in the county. Two children were born to them in Clark County.

Here husband John Selves preceded her in death March 1895. Since his death she with the help of her son Richard have carried on the work of the farm. Three of her children, Mrs. Henry Brown, Mrs. August Snyder and Elmer Selves all of Neillsville, died in 1917 and 1918.

21 Grandchildren

She leaves to mourn her death a sister, Mrs. Phoebe Hutchinson of Humbolt, Iowa, a brother, Joe Buss of Neillsville, four sons, William of Lac du Flambeau, Wis., Thomas of Colby, Edward of Neillsville and Richard at home. She also leaves twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

The funeral was held in the Pleasant Ridge church, Rev. Wilson Mallory of Granton officiating. Interment was made in the Neillsville cemetery beside her husband.

Six grandchildren acted as pall bearers, Ernest Snyder, Byron, Hugh and Forest Selves and Herbert Brown. Grandma Selves has always lived a Christian life and was a member of the Presbyterian church, being a leader in church work.
